Dr. Krishnaiyan Thulasiraman (KT) passed away on December 16, 2024 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born in Ammayappan, India to parents Krishnaiyan and Nannammal on June 9, 1942. KT married his wife Santha on August 22, 1965. They were married for sixty years, which brought them three beautiful daughters.
Dr. Thulasiraman graduated with a PhD from The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai, India and received his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the College of Engineering Guindy, University of Madras in Chennai, India. He was a Distinguished Alumni of both institutions. His schooling was at Pachayappa’s College, Kanchipuram, India graduating with a gold medal.
As a professor at IIT Madras, KT visited North America several times before moving to Canada as a professor. From 1981 through1994, he was a professor at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He later moved to University of Oklahoma as the Hitachi Chair Professor of Computer Science until his retirement in 2017 and continued as Emeritus Professor. He authored two monumental advanced level books: “Graphs, Networks and Algorithms” (1981) and “Graphs: Theory and Algorithms” (1992). He had a distinguished career spanning more than four decades during which he was Adjunct Professor at University of Waterloo, Canada, visiting Professor at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan and University of Karlsruhe, Germany, as a Humboldt Fellow.
Among many of his accomplishments, Dr. Thulasiraman was a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.
KT is survived by his loving wife, Santha; three daughters Parimala (Thulasiram), Padmamalini (Kannan), and Preetha (Venkatesh) and five grandchildren, Matsya, Parasar, Harshini, Santhosh, and Sarvesh.
Services are entrusted to Tribute Memorial Care, 4300 W. Indian Hills Road, Norman, OK 73072 on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 2pm.
