Dolan Cole was born in Norman, OK on April 12, 1934 to Alfred Rosser and Maysel Christene (Floyd) Cole. He passed at the age of 83 at his Norman home on Thursday, May 4, 2017.
Dolan was in the family photography business. Cole Studio is a name imprinted on hundreds of thousands of photos. Dolan started his own arm of the business when he was 10 years old, he set up a makeshift studio and dark room in the attic of Wentworth Military School and charged classmates a nickel per picture that he took with his Kodak brownie camera. He went on to spend more than 60 years in the family business and received the honor of serving for 35 years as American Legion Texas Boys State official photographer.
Dolan held many interests and hobbies, especially when it came to outdoor activities. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and bird watching. He loved taking trips to Colorado where he could engage in all of these activities. He was famous for his family cook-outs, where he could be counted on to provide catfish, ribs, and frog legs.
Dolan was also a pilot, logging over 150 hours. He was a member of the Oklahoma State University “Flying Aggies”. He also loved hitting the trails on a motorcycle. Dolan was a group photographer by trade but he loved taking pictures of just about anything.
