Dessie (Bogan) Hamer Judkins passed from this life at the age of 91 on September 4, 2018. She was born in Wapanucka, OK on September 22, 1926 to George W. Bogan and Lula Mae (Turner) Bogan. Upon graduation from Wapanucka High School Dessie studied accounting at Draughons Business School in Muskogee, OK, and in 1949 she married Wesley “Freck” Hamer. They made their home in Wapanucka for three years before moving to Del City, where they lived until Freck passed away. Dessie later married H.C. Judkins and they made their home in Norman, OK.
Dessie spent her first years of employment in the accounting department of Sinclair Oil Company. She later became the accountant for the American Legion of Oklahoma City, where she worked until retirement.
In her leisure time Dessie enjoyed dancing, shopping and fashion, playing dominoes (especially moon), reading, gardening, and cooking. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing large family meals with love; she was especially famous for her Thanksgiving dressing. Dessie played basketball in high school and enjoyed watching OU and Thunder basketball games. Her favorite pastime was playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dessie was a member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church in Norman and volunteered her time there as a receptionist for eight years. Dessie was a loving, caring, and generous person, and was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Dessie was preceded in death by: parents George and Lula Mae Bogan; husbands Freck Hamer and H.C. Judkins; daughter Sandra Hamer; grandsons Matthew and Drew Casper; brothers Leon, Wayne, Robert, Roy, and Dan; and Sisters Eula Mae Lester, Arlene Bogan, Gladys Thrasher, Gene Loeffelholz, Barbara Taylor, and Wanda Epperson. She is survived by: son Wesley Hamer; granddaughter; Ginger Casper; and great-grandchildren Wesley, Wiley, and Eleanor Maxted and David and Josephine Roberts; sisters Mary Cook and Georgia Pattison; and stepsons Gene, Ray, David, and Wayne Judkins.
Services to celebrate Dessie’s life will be held at McFarlin UMC on Tuesday, September 11th at 10:00 am, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Wapanucka at 3:00 pm.
