David William White Iii

David William Wirt White III was born on July 29, 1940 in Columbia, MO to William “Bill” Wirt White II and Evelyn (McCain) White. He was an only child. He passed away at home with his family by his side on August 17, 2021.

David was the Chief Broadcast Engineer for Norman’s NPR source, KGOU radio station at the University of Oklahoma and created additional transmitters for KGOU’s expansion around the State. He retired from there in 2006. Prior to KGOU, he was a Broadcast Engineer for K10 TV and KADA Radio in Ada, Ok. He was also an inventor and draftsman.

In 1982, David married the love of his life Kathy Hayes on Christmas Day and made their home in Norman, Oklahoma.

David had degrees in both mathematics and physics and was a brilliant man. He was also a ham radio operator for many years. David was the family’s go-to person for anything having to do with computers and soon realized he had become everyone’s computer Guru.

Survivors include his wife, Kathi White of the Home; Four daughters, Angie Cantrell and husband Rodney of Stratford, OK, Barbie Pierce and husband Greg of Moore, OK, Julianna White-Robinson of Norman, OK and Jennifer White Howard and husband Steven of Norman, OK; four grandsons, Kyle Chaffin and wife Chandra of Stratford, OK, Sooner and Boomer Pierce of Moore, OK and Christian Howard of Norman, OK; four granddaughters, Brooke Juhl and husband Doug of Moore, OK, Rachel Glander of Norman, OK, Korii Pierce of Oklahoma City, OK and Abbye Pierce of Newcastle, OK; five great-grandsons, Landon, Zane, Gage, Korbin and Bodyn; seven great-granddaughters, Lyric, Preslee, Paisley, Remington, Kourtlyn, Eva and Everlie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Derek Chaffin, and one great-grandson, Hudson Chaffin.
