David Barton Busby

April 20, 1941 — April 29, 2024

David Barton Busby of Noble, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 29, 2024. He was born on April 20, 1941, in Ada, Oklahoma to Orel W. Busby and Bonita Laverne (Willoughby) Busby.

A natural born athlete, he was proud to have played on the 1958 and 1959 Norman High School State Championship basketball teams. He graduated from Norman High in 1959 and received a baseball scholarship to the University of Oklahoma.

While in high school, he met the love of his life, Sandra Kay Carpenter. The high school sweethearts married in Norman, Oklahoma, on October 6, 1961.

While attending the University of Oklahoma, he was recruited by eight major league baseball organizations. After his first year at OU, he pitched his way through the minor leagues for five years and was called up to pitch with the Boston Red Sox for the 1964 season. Unfortunately, just 10 days before Opening Day, he threw out his arm, resulting in a career-ending injury. He then returned to the University of Oklahoma where he received a bachelor’s degree in business education.

David was a living example of his favorite Scripture, Joshua 24:15—"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

He adored his family and was always up for fun, laughter, and “friendly” competition, making a game out of anything.

He retired in 1994 from his position as President of DCA, a telecommunication billing company. In retirement he enjoyed many meaningful years of traveling the country and creating lifelong memories with Sandra prior to her passing in 2018. They were married over 56 years.

David was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister, Sandra Carol Clark, and her husband Roland. He is survived by his children: son Chris Busby and wife Chris Alison of Washington; son Scott Busby and wife Glenda of Norman; and daughter Lisa Hill of Georgetown, Texas. Eight grandchildren: Melissa Busby, Jessica Hill (John), Becca Capps (Dalton), Amber Ingram (Paige), Kara Zerby (Keaton), David Scott Busby (Kelly), Hannah Kalk (Jacob), and Luke David Hoy; and thirteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Debbie Lea of Norman; his dear friend and companion, Jonell Grissom; and countless friends and family.

The family wishes to thank Valir Hospice for the exceptional care they provided.
