Funeral services for Mr. Darryl Wayne Sinclair, age 76, of Guthrie, Oklahoma will begin at 2:00pm Friday, February 7, 2025, in The Chapel of Tribute Memorial Care, 4300 W Indian Hills Road in Norman with the Reverend Bruce Ingram and the Reverend Carol Reich officiating. The Sinclair family will greet friends with a visitation honoring Darryl from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Tribute Memorial Care in Norman.
Darryl Wayne Sinclair was born Monday, August 9, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma the son of Avalon Leroy and Gladys Joyce (Finch) Sinclair. He passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025, at his home with his wife, Paula by his side. Darryl was reared in Del City, Midwest City and Choctaw, graduating from Choctaw High School with honors in May of 1966. He enrolled as a Freshman at East Central State University in Ada, Oklahoma graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree on May 28, 1970. Immediately afterwards Darryl enlisted into the United States Army serving four years before being Honorable Discharged in 1974. After his service to his country, Darryl began a career with Oklahoma Farm Bureau as an Accountant. After beginning his career in the insurance business, Darryl enrolled at Central State University (now UCO) in Edmond, earning his Masters Degree in Business Administration with honors on July 24, 1977. He then enrolled at Oklahoma City University completing a Masters Degree in Accounting on May 11, 1979. Darryl later earned the esteemed certification as a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) on October 25, 1993. Subsequently, Darryl was promoted to Vice President of Accounting and in February of 1998 the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Board of Directors appointed Darryl to lead the company as the Vice President of Operations and General Manager. Darryl retired from Oklahoma Farm Bureau in 2010 after more than 36 years of service. While leading the company, Darryl fostered a culture change by making himself available to his people and instilling a sense of trust and transparency. As a result, the team strengthened, shattering goals, and defining new standards that still have relevancy today.
Darryl was the recipient of numerous insurance industry awards and recognitions for his entrepreneurial and innovative leadership. When he wasn’t at the office, he enjoyed his time with the local Toastmasters.
Darryl was united in marriage to Mrs. Paula (Pritchard) Norris on Saturday, August 30, 2014, in Norman, Oklahoma. Darryl and Paula thoroughly enjoyed life together, traveling and just having fun! They enjoyed golfing (with Darryl claiming a hole in one!).
Darryl was an avid runner (with Paula riding her bicycle beside him to keep up!) completing two half marathons. He was also an avid reader and would often be enjoying three or four books at the same time. Darryl mostly enjoyed his family and will be remembered as a sweet and kind man blessed with an abundance of patience. His giving spirit blessed his family and friends in a multitude of ways. Darryl was diagnosed with cancer on December 19, 2019, and led a brave and courageous battle. He was in remission until October of 2024 when the cancer returned. The Sinclair family is grateful to MD Anderson of Houston and staff for the care they provided Darryl over the past five years.
Survivors include his wife, Paula of the home; two sons, David Sinclair of Oklahoma City and Matthew Sinclair and his wife, Helen, of Oklahoma City; one step-daughter, Heather Norris of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Avalon and Maureen Sinclair of Oklahoma City; one step grandchild, Myles Lopez-Cepero of Austin, TX; one sister, Reverend Carol Reich and her husband, George, of Holdenville, OK; one niece, Becky McCorkle and her husband, Coy, of Holdenville, OK: and one nephew, Michael Reich and his wife, Cory, of Redwater, Texas.
Darryl was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Janet Sinclair on September 29, 2011.
Burial will conclude in the Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 N Kelley Avenue in Oklahoma City under the direction of Tribute Memorial Care of Norman, Oklahoma.
