Cydney Nicole Zhou

June 14, 1992 — July 24, 2022

Cydney Nicole Zhou, 30, of Norman passed away Sunday, July 24th, 2022. She was born June 14, 1992 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Robert Ramirez and Elizabeth (Andrus) Scrutchins.

Growing up, Cydney spent time in both Chickasha, Oklahoma and Shawnee, Oklahoma. While at Shawnee High School, she was an excellent student who also earned Tennis All-State Honors. She would later attend the University of Oklahoma, where she received her Bachelor and Master of Social Work in 2015 and 2016, respectively. In 2015, Cydney married Mikey Zhou, and after graduating they moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 2016 to start their lives together. She had a passion for helping people, and this is reflected in the career choices she would take on. In Arizona, she was a wonderful therapist for children with autism, intellectual/developmental, or behavioral health needs. In Oklahoma, she was a beloved social services specialist and then a case manager supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Naturally, she was a benevolent spirit in her personal life as well. Those who were fortunate enough to know her would describe her as pure sunshine, lighting up any room with her presence. Everyone she met was immediately a friend. She would go to extreme lengths to make friends feel at home when she hosted them, picking up customized snacks for each guest and ensuring all couch blankets were freshly laundered. If she wasn’t helping and serving people, she was being the perfect mom to her dogs and cats. And to nobody’s surprise, her love of animals extended beyond those of her own. If she saw a turtle crossing the street, she would have to park the car, and run across the street to help it finish its journey. She would escort any baby animal who had been separated from its pack to the nearest wildlife nature center. Truly, Cydney was one of a kind - as magnanimous as she was compassionate, with the endless patience and capacity to be kindhearted to all she crossed paths with.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Faith Andrus. Cydney is survived by her husband, Mikey Zhou; her grandmother, Lois Ackman, and her husband, Steve; her grandfather, Bud Andrus, and his wife, Martie; her grandfather, Bobby Ramirez, and his wife, Freda; her father, Rob Ramirez; her mother and step-father, Beth and Keven Scrutchins; her brothers Jeremy Ramirez, Jack Scrutchins, and Kaleb Scrutchins; her aunt, Robyn Cunningham and her husband, Tim; her uncle, Mike Andrus, and his wife, Arline; Her Aunts, Marlo Martinez, Carmen Ramirez, Nicole Storm; her cousins Chase (Emma), Branden, Cate, and Rin Cunningham, Emma, Garrett, Olivia Andrus, Amanda and Raquel Nelson, and Sarah Ramirez and Lilyana Martinez; her dogs, Heisman and Maysie; and her cats, Kiwi and Mosby.
