Connie Lou (Mccammon) Zorger

January 30, 1941 — December 22, 2018

Connie Lou (McCammon) Zorger of Norman came into this world on January 30, 1941 in Stillwater, Oklahoma as the youngest of three daughters born to Chester Leroy and Jennie B. Aurlyn (Litson) McCammon. She passed in Oklahoma City on December 22, 2018 at the age of 77.

Connie spent her formative years first in Stillwater and then in Midwest City before moving to Shawnee in 1953, from where she graduated in 1958. At the age of 13 Connie’s father passed away. While attending Shawnee High, Connie met the love of her life, Kenneth Zorger. The two were married in Denton, Texas in January of 1961, and two years later they were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Christi.

As a child, Connie had a tonsillectomy and an appendectomy at the hospital in Stillwater. During her recovery she would go on patient rounds with the Sisters who staffed the hospital. This began a childhood dream of becoming a nurse, a dream which was realized when she graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1961 as a Registered Nurse. During her tenure as an RN Connie worked at Norman Municipal Hospital as a staff nurse and then as Obstetrics Supervisor from 1961-65; as an OB Nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1965-67; and as an OB Nurse at Norman Hospital from 1967-72. In 1974 she graduated from the St. Francis School of Anesthesia in Wichita, Kansas with the highest boards in her class. After becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist Connie worked at Norman Regional Hospital as a CRNA in the OR until 1988, at which time she was lucky enough to take a CRNA position with no call duties at Physicians Surgical Center in Norman, a position she kept until her retirement in 2009.

In her free time Connie enjoyed cooking, traveling, and football. She and Kenny traveled extensively in Mexico, New Mexico, and Arizona, and also took trips to Belize, Guatemala, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Peru, Ecuador, and Rome. They particularly enjoyed visiting archaeological sites and learning about the Native American cultures of the American Southwest. Connie loved a good detective mystery and found great joy in water skiing at Lake Thunderbird and Lake Tenkiller.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and both sisters: Naoma Bauman and Shirley Vester. She is survived by: husband Kenneth Zorger of the home; daughter Christi Zorger of Norman; nieces Cathye Vester of Midwest City, Oklahoma and Lisa Smith of Sunbury, Ohio; and nephew Harold D. Bauman, II of Boise, Idaho.
