Charles Edward Gage

October 16, 1934 — October 15, 2024

Norman

Charles (Chuck, Charlie) Gage passed away on October 15, hours short of his 90th birthday. He was born to Guy and Edna Gage in Sayre, OK on October 16, 1934. He spent his post war years in Hinton, OK, moving to Anadarko Oklahoma in 1951. He met the love of his life, Phyllis O'Donley, there in high school. They were married by the Justice of the Peace in Wichita Falls on July 3, 1953.

He enlisted in the Air Force in 1953 during the late stages of the Korean War. He was an aircraft and engine mechanic and spent his military career at Air Force bases in Texas. He was discharged in 1957 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After the Air Force he moved to Norman where he attended the University of Oklahoma. He worked at Humpty Dumpty and attended class all while raising a family. He graduated from OU in 1961 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration at the Aeronautical Center in Oklahoma City. He worked as an engineer in both the Logistics Center and the Airways Engineering Division. He held positions as a Project Engineer, Senior Engineer, Branch Manager, and was the Division Manager of the National Airway Engineering Support Division when he retired in 1994. After completion of 38 years of government service he worked as a Contract Technical Manager supporting FAA for an additional 19 years, retiring in 2013 to take care of his wife who had early onset dementia.

Charles had a passion for his family, his church and his career as an engineering manager. He loved playing golf and played at Westwood for over 50 years. He loved OU sports and was a huge fan of Women's basketball and softball. He attended every activity of his grandkids that he could. He was a Christian from his early years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Norman for more than 50 years. He was faithful in his attendance and service. He served as a Deacon, served on a number of church committees and led an adult men's bible study class. It was his prayer that he be remembered by those who knew him as a Godly man who was honest, fair, generous with what he had and above all considerate of others.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and a brother, Cecil Gage. His wife Phyllis passed away on June 7, 2023. They were happily married for a few days short of 70 years. God provided them with three children, Gary, Kelly and Connie.
