Casey Joe Bussett

June 9, 1975 — September 24, 2015

Casey Joe Bussett, 40, passed away on September 24, 2015 in Granbury, Texas. He was born in Cushing, Oklahoma on June 9, 1975 to Jerry Dale and Carla Sue (Adams) Bussett.

Casey graduated from Memorial High School in 1993. He met his wife Crystal Reeves on August 26, 1996 and they were married on September 21, 1996 in Van Buren, Arkansas. Casey and Crystal had four sons and lived several places before returning to Oklahoma in 2007. Casey loved family time and it delighted him to take his sons camping, shooting, fishing and flying. Casey had a very giving heart and was a good friend to everyone.

He loved working and helping others. He was a Cadre with Thunderbird Youth Academy in Pryor, Oklahoma, worked with the youth at church, and mentored youth in need. He was the type of person who stopped to help those when no one else saw help was needed, even at his own expense.

Casey’s love of flying began when his mother took him on his first helicopter ride at five years old. After landing, his first words to her were “Mom, when I grow up I'm going to fly one of those.” He got his pilot’s license the day he turned 16, even before he earned his driver’s license. After high school Casey continued his pursuit of flying with the United States Army, flying the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. He flew multiple missions including two tours in Iraq; Casey retired as a CW3. He continued flying as a Base Line Pilot with Air Evac LifeTeam.
Casey was a member of the EAA and a founding member of Epic Warriors where he also served as a board member. Their purpose is to raise awareness for those suffering from the “Invisible Wounds of War” and other service-connected injuries, offering a forum for veterans to help other veterans, and enlisting the public’s support of America’s Epic Warriors.

Casey is survived by: wife Crystal; mother Carla Lewis and husband Harold; father Jerry Bussett and wife Sharron; mother-in-law Diane Corley; sons Nickolas, Kaleb, Bryce, and Austin; brother Curtis Bussett; nieces Madeline and Meredith Bussett; sister-in-law Rachel Bussett; honorary daughter Meghan Hicks and granddaughter Isabella; honorary son Daylan Hicks; Godchildren Kayin Crook, Shelby Crook, and Karsen Crook.
