Carol Tweed Claflin of Tulsa, Oklahoma joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on February 11, 2020 at the age of 73. Carol was born on January 27, 1947 in Knox City, TX to lifelong educators and faithful Christian parents, George Washington and Abigail (Gail) Reynolds Tweed. The family moved to California shortly after Carol’s birth. This is where she spent her formative years and welcomed her younger brother, John, with open arms. She moved with her family from Middletown, to Berkeley, to Modesto, and finally to Santa Maria, CA, where she graduated high school. She then moved to Oklahoma and entered college at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU) at the age of 17.
While at OBU, Carol interned at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City in the course of obtaining her Bachelor’s in Nursing. It was there that she met her husband, Gene Claflin, M.D. , and the two were married in 1969. During Gene’s service in the United States Air Force, the couple was stationed throughout the world including Spain, Australia, Texas, Kansas, Ohio, California, Florida, and Oklahoma. Carol’s strong Christian faith enabled her to enjoy new friends and make the most of each adventure.
Carol earned her Master’s in psychiatric and mental health nursing at the University of Oklahoma. The couple gave birth to their first child, a son named Brandon, and the couple’s relationship with God grew deeper. Later, the couple adopted their beloved daughter, Grace Elizabeth.
The underlying force in Carol’s life was her relationship with the Lord. She took delight in leading Bible studies with her husband as well as in her later single years. She was fluent in Spanish, loved gardening, history, and playing the piano. She took great delight in treating her loved ones with thoughtful gifts at the holidays, and she loved her grandchildren dearly. She prayed for each of them on a regular basis.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gail Tweed. Left to cherish her memory are son, Dr. Brandon Claflin and wife Natalie of Tulsa; daughter Grace Claflin and husband Alan Stubblefield of Tulsa; brother John Tweed and wife Debbie of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren Ben, Zac, Claire Elizabeth and Caitlynn Grace Claflin and Callie and Lucas Stubblefield; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
