Brett C. Bowers

Brett C. Bowers, 62, of Norman, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend was called to his eternal resting place on February 25, 2021. Due to local health and safety guidelines, private family services will be held at St. Johns Episcopal Church of Norman. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, March 5th at Tribute Memorial Care, 708 24th Ave. NW, Norman, OK 73069. Brett entered this world on April 17, 1958 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born to Royal Glenn Bowers and Shirlie Ann (Haddock) Bowers Wilcoxson. He was the youngest of three children. Brett had supportive parents and a wonderful brother and sister. He always had fond memories of his childhood and was one of the most nostalgic and sentimental people you’d ever meet. In high school, he won the 1976 4A #2 Doubles Tennis State Championship and made All State. Upon graduation from Shawnee High School, he moved to Norman to attend The University of Oklahoma and pledged Phi Delta Theta Fraternity in 1976. The summer of 1977, Brett was tennis pro, maintenance, and groundskeeper at Twin Lakes Country Club, where he spotted his future wife, April Ann (Hopkins), and while he may not have known it after the first date, April knew that Brett was the man she was going to marry. He received his Bachelors of Finance on May 10, 1980 and married April 7 days later, May 17th, in Norman.

He began his professional career with First National Bank of Oklahoma City in the Operations Management Training program. In 1985, he decided to go a different path within the Bank. On the day he started his new job, with a 1 year old and a mortgage, First National Bank failed; however, it was purchased by First Interstate Bank that very same day. He went on to achieve many successes within the bank to where he was the #1 Sales Person in the country in 1992. On January 1, 1993, he was selected to become the Sales Director for Boatmen’s Investment Services for the State of Oklahoma. Brett stayed with Boatmen’s through two more purchases: Nations Bank and Bank of America, and on January 3, 2006, he started the investment program for MidFirst Bank. He received many awards and accolades during his 41 year career, with his most recent achievement being the Bank Insurance & Securities Association (“BISA”) Circle of Excellence Award, their highest honor awarded to those who are committed to the financial services industry and have made lasting and meaningful contributions to the association. He was on his path towards retirement on April 15, 2021.

There are no words to express how much Brett was looking forward to his golden years with April in their dream home in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas that was completed at the beginning of this year. They were looking forward to many rounds of golf, tennis matches, and sunset cruises on the pontoon boat. It was going to be the gathering place for family and friends, summer weeks of Camp Mimi and Bebe, and where he would finally enjoy the fruits of his labor.

Brett and April called Norman home and raised their three children, Bailey, Caitlin, and Brady, who are his greatest pride and joy. He was “one of the dads,” that you could always find coaching bases at the ball fields, cheering on kids from the sidelines, clapping in the audience at school musicals, tossing kids into the air at the pool, and organizing campouts for YMCA Adventure Guides and Princesses. He was an avid OU and Thunder fan, whose team trivia was unsurpassed. He took his role of Bebe very seriously and spent countless hours throwing footballs, having tea parties, and telling stories he had learned as a child. His daily phone calls to wish his grandkids a good day before school or a FaceTime to ask about their day were always a highlight.

Brett was humble, caring, hardworking, trustworthy, and always had a smiling face and a warm, “Hello.” He was an incredible husband, a loving and supportive dad, and a thoughtful friend. He will be greatly missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shan Bowers; one grandchild, Crew Conrad Watson.

Brett is survived by his wife of 40 years, April (Hopkins) Bowers; Daughter, Bailey Watson and her husband Justin; Daughter, Caitlin Graves and her husband Ben; Son, Brady Bowers and his fiancée Rachel Coffman; Brother, Dr. Brandon Bowers and his wife Janet; Grandchildren, Owen, Jack, and Tinsley Watson and Eloise and Henry B. Graves, arriving April 2021; and by many brothers-in-law, sister- in- laws and numerous nieces and nephews.
