Bobbie Jo McHughes of Norman, Oklahoma passed away Friday, June 4, 2021 in Oklahoma City at the age of 91. Bobbie was born February 9, 1930 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to D and Eva (Graham) DeArman. The family moved to Norman in 1935. She graduated from Norman High School in 1947, attended Oklahoma University and graduated from Hill’s Business College. She met her future husband AC McHughes in 1946 on a blind date. They were married 70 years ago on May 6, 1951 at McFarlin Methodist Church. While AC served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict, she worked as a bookkeeper for Butler-Sparks Equipment Company in Oklahoma City. In 1953 they became owners of McHughes Food Center which they operated together for 28 years.
In 1946 Bobbie became a member of Goodrich United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Friendship Builders Class, Goodrich GCGers Senior group and served as secretary of the United Methodist Women as long as her health allowed. She was a Proverb 31 woman who led by example and loved her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, son, Terry McHughes and brother, Earl D DeArman. She is survived by her beloved husband , AC; daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Bill Pollard of Norman; daughter-in-law, Katie McHughes of Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren, Brad Hill, Tara Sukut, DeNara Hill, Kellie Harvie, Malena McHughes, Alicia Fowler, Teresa Scarbrough, Paula Rich and their spouses: 11 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-laws, Jack and James McHughes and sister-in-law, Dorothy O’Neal and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all the care givers at Wickshire Senior Living OKC and Traditions Health for all their loving care not only for Bobbie but for her family as well.
