Bobbie Lee McCorkle, was born to Leonard Lee and Alice Anna (Raupe) McCorkle on June 4, 1933 in the Meridian Community, east of Guthrie, OK. Bob graduated from Guthrie High School in 1952. Bob and Mary Lou (Loeffelholz) McCorkle were married on March 9,1960 in Norman, OK.
He proudly served our country by joining the United States Navy in December 1952 and retired as Personnelman 1st Class in February 1973. During his 20 years of service he served on: USS Cascade AD16, USS Cogswell DD651, NATTC Norman, OK 1956-1958, USS Shields DD596, NAV Station Adak, Alaska, NAS Corpus Christi, Texas, USS Haynesworth DD700, Nuclear Power Training Unit in Schenectady, New York, USS Constellation CVA64, NAS Chasefield, Beeville, TX. After retiring from the Navy, Bob began working for the U.S. Post Office and retired for a second time 20 years later.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and kites. He loved a good game of cards, dominoes or Wahoo with family and friends. He looked forward to watching the Sooners play football especially when they were operating on all cylinders. Bob will be remembered for his ability to carry on a conversation with anyone and his favorite people to visit were military veterans.
Survivors include his wife Mary Lou of the home; son, Michael McCorkle of Norman, OK: two daughters, Belinda (McCorkle) and husband Brian Calvin of Purcell, OK and Laura McCorkle of Norman, OK; six grandchildren, Chris and Sarah McCorkle, Josh and Sarah McCorkle, Brie Calvin, Casey Jo Fisher, Nick and Char Calvin; six great-grandchildren, Zoe McCorkle, MaryBeth McCorkle, Hannah Joy McCorkle, Mollie Custar, Makayla Calvin and Luka Calvin.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alice McCorkle; brother, Leonard Elvin McCorkle and wife Kathy; daughter-in-law, Melinda McCorkle; two grandsons, Brandon Keith McCorkle and Todd Calvin.
Bob requested memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
