Anthony “Tony” Richard O’Bryan, husband of Carol O'Bryan, father of Patrick O’Bryan, Kellye and Steve Sparling, and Gregory and Madeline O’Bryan, stepfather of Cheri Painter, Courtney Tennent, and Scott Tennent, and grandfather of many, went to his heavenly home on December 2, 2024, at the age of 79.
Tony was a joyful life-long Catholic who loved to serve others in his family, church and community. He was devoted to his wife, his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren, and took great delight in cooking for, visiting, cheering for, and advising them.
Born on April 4, 1945, in Fort Scott, Kansas, Tony was the first of six children born to Dick and Elaine O’Bryan. His father’s military service led the family to live in Cuba, San Diego, and Hawaii before settling in Kansas City, KS. Tony also served in the military for several years, in the US Naval Reserve.
Tony graduated from Oklahoma State University but became a University of Oklahoma fan after living in Norman for the past 41 years. Sooner sports were a shared passion of Tony & Carol, as well as acting in and producing church plays, volunteering at church dinners, and caring for family. Tony also loved any opportunity to golf or enjoy the pool on a warm Oklahoma summer day.
Tony will be remembered for his love of God and family, and for his faithful service to his country, his community, and those closest to him.
