Amil Leroy Lyon Jr., age 75, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at his home in Norman, Oklahoma.
Amil was born October 20, 1948, in Dodge City, Kansas, son of Amil LeRoy and Myrtle Irene (Henderson) Lyon. He married the love of his life, Dee Ann Lafary on May 31, 1969 in Wichita, KS. Amil was a geologist and retired after 45 years in the field but continued to share his passion for geology with his grandsons. He enjoyed performing with Vocal Sounds of Oklahoma for 50 years. He was a member and served several leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America for 40 years and earned the prestigious Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Geological Society, and the National Rifle Association. Amil was an avid and passionate outdoorsman and was a dedicated educator to youth.
Amil enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and singing, but most importantly was the time he spent with family. He was instrumental teaching his two grandsons’ important life skills.
He is survived by his spouse, Dee Ann; his daughter, Shona and husband Alan Good of Stillwater, OK ;his son, Scott and wife Tressa Lyon of Norman, OK; his grandchildren, Christian Gambrell, Cody Lyon, and step grandson Alex Good; his brother, Melvin and wife Pat Lyon; his sisters, Verena Sullivan, Maxine and husband Bill Van Gundy; he was also an honorary father and grandfather to many.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Boy Scouts of America or to the Vocal Sounds of Oklahoma Chorus.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2024, 1:00 PM at First Christian Church in Norman, OK. Online condolences may be shared at www.tribute.care
