Born in Blackwell, Oklahoma on September 29, 1946 to George L. and Esther M. (Cockrell) Rodgers, Alexis L. Rodgers passed peacefully at home in Norman, Oklahoma on November 9, 2017 after an extended battle with cancer.
Alexis graduated from University High School in 1964 and from the University of Oklahoma in 1968, with a BA in Fine Arts. She also worked in the History Department of OU. During her college tenure, she was very active in classes and promoting pottery at the Firehouse Art Center in Norman as well as teaching.
Alexis left Norman to accept a position at the University of Cincinnati in the Psychology Department, where she remained until accepting the position of Director of Operations and Publications for the American Board of Medical Specialties in Evanston, Illinois. After directing their operations for 24 years, she retired in 2006 and moved back home to Norman, Oklahoma.
During her retirement, Alexis was active in local politics and, after volunteering at the Firehouse Art Center for several years, she joined their staff part-time. Her many activities included extensive work in pottery, and she was responsible for helping to organize Firehouse Art Center events.
Alexis very much enjoyed traveling in the USA and abroad with friends, family, and for work. She loved the arts and making pottery. Over the last 35 years, Alexis has exhibited and sold her art in venues from Chicago, Illinois to Norman, Oklahoma. Some of her works remain in the Firehouse Art Center's Gift Shop. She recently extended her creative spark to making fused glass jewelry and dishes, as well as terra cotta aromatherapy necklaces.
Alexis is survived by: brother Cody Rodgers and wife Cindy of Dallas, Texas; sister Tricia Carleton of Norman, Oklahoma; sister Risa Rodgers of Southington, Connecticut; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as dear friends, extended family members, and her two cats, Bowie and Cassie.
Donations may be directed in her name to The Firehouse Art Center Scholarship Fund (444 S. Flood Ave, Norman, OK).
