Alan T. Montgomery

March 31, 1928 — May 22, 2017

Alan T. Montgomery of Norman passed away at the age of 89 on May 22, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 31, 1928 to Melvin Thomas and Louise (Hess) Montgomery in Steeles Tavern, Virginia.
The first 44 years of Alan’s life were spent in his beloved home state of Virginia. He attended Virginia Tech University and later joined the United States Air Force. In between the two he married his wife, Ann Thompson, on May 13, 1950 at the Presbyterian Church in Timber Ridge, VA. While in the Air Force, Alan and Ann lived in San Antonio, TX and Biloxi, MS. After his discharge from the Air Force, Alan moved his family to Raphine, VA and went to work for the Westinghouse Corporation in Verona. While living in Raphine, Alan was a member of Old Providence Presbyterian Church in Spotswood, a member of the Ruritan Club, and a volunteer firefighter.
In 1972 Alan transferred to Norman, OK, where he spent the remainder of his life. While in Oklahoma he quickly embraced the local customs and became a diehard Sooner fan. He had a lifelong enjoyment of woodworking, especially making furniture for his family and friends and working on the lathe. Another of Alan’s interests was genealogy, and he served as the president of the Cleveland County Genealogical Society after being a member for many years. Alan also loved playing Bridge with his wife and his friends. Alan was a devout Presbyterian and faithfully attended First Presbyterian Church Norman.
Alan was preceded in death by his wife and his parents. He is survived by: son Kevin Montgomery of Norman; daughter Kristen Ramos of Norman; grandchildren Amber Kotzum and husband Michael, Henery Montgomery, Maxwell Montgomery, Tyler Alvarez, and Alex Ramos; and great-grandchildren Brooke, Claire, and Chase Kotzum.
Memorial contributions in Alan’s name may be made to his beloved First Presbyterian Church Norman (555 S. University Blvd, Norman, OK 73069/fpcnorman.org)
