Valerie E. Kramer was born October 2, 1925 to Albert “J. C.” and Esther (Doepke) Moeller in Walton, Nebraska. As a child, she lived in Walton and Grand Island, Nebraska and Concordia, Missouri. She attended Lutheran parochial schools in Grand Island and Concordia. After her graduation from Concordia High School in 1943, she enrolled in The Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis from which she graduated with her RN degree in 1946.
Valerie specialized in psychiatric nursing and worked at the Missouri Psychiatric Hospital on Arsenal Street, St. Louis; The University of Michigan Psychiatric Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan; The State of Michigan Psychiatric Hospital, Ypsilanti, Michigan; and she served as Director of Nursing for the State of Michigan Forensic Center, Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Valerie married Howard W. Kramer, a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. Louis on June 27, 1948. During their marriage the couple lived in Carthage, MO; Louisville, KY; St. Louis (Des Peres), MO; Ann Arbor, MI; St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; and, after retirement, in Albuquerque, NM; Las Cruces, NM; Columbia, MO; and Norman.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Elmer, and sisters Ruth and Marcella. Surviving are the couples four children: Judy (Roger) Van Andel of Bozeman, MT; Ruth (Ade) Zielke of Woodstock, IL; Jonathan (Jill) of Nixa, MO; and Michael (Carla) of Norman. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
