Nancy Jane Armstrong was born in Maud, Oklahoma on September 20, 1936 to Lloyd and Violet May (Coward) Petrie. She passed at the age of 80 on January 3, 2017 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Nancy grew up in an era when Rock ‘N Roll was just starting to take the stage, and she developed an early and lifelong appreciation for the genre. Among her favorites were Elvis Presley, Fats Dominos, and Chubby Checker. Nancy would also take quick day trips to Wichita Falls so she and her girlfriends could buy 45’ records that weren’t sold in Duncan. Nancy could have been a rock music bootlegger. She also loved playing the piano, emulating her idols. In addition to playing and listening to music, Nancy enjoyed dancing to it. Growing up she did tap dancing and ballet.
Nancy had a particular fondness for animals, and she would feed anything that would let her. She could always be found feeding the turkeys, deer, and geese on her country property. She was an excellent cook, and her Christmas fudge recipe was absolutely delicious!
Nancy was preceded in death by: husband Col. Robert “Bob” Armstrong; brother Lloyd Petrie; and her parents. She is survived by: sons David Armstrong and his wife Lisa of Norman, OK and Richard Armstrong and his wife Mary-Margaret of Kansas City; grandchildren Brad Armstrong, and Daniel Armstrong, Megan Armstrong and Sarah Armstrong; and 4 great-grandchildren, Chloe Bella Marie Armstrong, Audrey Cleonna Blake Armstrong, Tavin Emmitt Lewis and Lilliana Ryan Lewis.
