Mary Elizabeth “Beth” Sudduth was born to Forrest Stanley Farmer and Frances Cornelia (Cole) Farmer on January 10,1933 in El Paso, TX. She passed away on June 8, 2018 in Oklahoma City.
Beth’s life was always an out of this world adventure. Her life included marriages to William Mattoon and later to Fred Sudduth. Her love for her children and grandchildren was unsurpassed. She enjoyed traveling, going fishing, watching good movies, which didn’t always have to be of the Sci-Fi variety, and hot air balloons. She was extremely close to her mother and enjoyed fishing, cooking and especially time with family. As a young girl growing up in the hills of Missouri, she enjoyed hunting and fishing with her dad and uncles. She later attended the Methodist School of Nursing in St. Joseph, MO, graduating in 1953 as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career would eventually lead to a position in 1971 at the Oklahoma Cerebral Palsy Center, later becoming the J.D. McCarty Center, as Director of Nursing. She retired in 1996 from the J.D. McCarty Center. She has been known to play a slot machine or two and enjoyed just simply reading a good book. Her beloved family will remember Beth for always making a big deal of going out to eat with her; it was always an event! In all of the adventures of Beth, it must be noted she was continually on the look-out for the rarely seen UFO. You see in 1966, Beth observed a UFO in the south sky from Lindsey Street and from that time forward she always had an eye in the sky. Beth’s adventurous spirit afforded her the Best Mom Ever Award from her children and their neighborhood school friends. Beth never met a stranger and welcomed all with open arms and an open heart. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and compassion led to lifelong friendships.
Beth is survived by: two sons, Michael Mattoon and wife Susan of Canal Winchester, OH and Gregory Mattoon and wife Mary of Norman, OK; two daughters, Karen Panichelli and husband John of Andover, MA and Tammy Brodell and husband Pete of Wellston, OK; four step-children, Ellen Usry and husband Bob of Norman, OK, Lynn Henderson and husband Doug of Bellingham, WA, Jane Penter and husband Sam of Bellingham, WA, and Mac Sudduth and wife Sharon of Schenectady, NY and their son Andrew Sudduth and wife Stephenie of Schenectady, NY; five grandchildren, Lauren Panichelli of Norman, OK, Shannon Williams and husband Norris of Edmond, OK, Nathan Brodell and wife Amanda of Oklahoma City, OK, Kali Mattoon of Columbus, OH, and Delaney Mattoon of Columbus, OH; four step-grandchildren, Bobby Usry and wife Marcy of Norman, OK, Jamie Usry and wife Cori of Norman, OK, Colin Barnett and wife Becky of Houston, TX, and Megan Barnett of Norman, OK; three great-grandchildren, Connor Barba, Haley Barba and Payson Barnett; longtime friend and co-worker, Irene Maguire and family; beloved dog, Trevor; and a host of other family and friends.
