Lauri Jean Deatherage was born on April 17, 1963 in Dallas, Texas to Dale Jean and Carolyn Jean (Parman) Deatherage. She passed away early in the morning of April 23, 2021 at Integris Hospice in Oklahoma City, only a few days after her 58th birthday.
Lauri’s family moved to Norman when she was in the second grade. She was a beautiful blonde little girl who was gentle and sweet. She loved playing with dolls and kittens, and the family pet Alexander the poodle. In elementary school, Lauri was a Brownie Scout and camped and fished with her family. Lauri attended Norman High School, and later realized she was very interested in cosmetology and went to school to learn how to do hair. Lauri’s favorite job was as a hairdresser. Even when her health was failing and it became difficult for her to do such a job, she still tried. Lauri lived life on her own terms, every day.
Lauri was an extraordinary giver. She would often give more than what she had, which was her way of showing love toward others. Lauri had a passion for art and crafting and would take a lot of time out of her days to create meaningful things for people. She made her grandchildren an album filled with the history of their ancestors on both sides of the family.
She loved her grandkids so much. Lauri was so proud of them and their accomplishments and talents. It was a tradition for her to come over to her son's house every 4th of July and eat watermelon with the family. She appreciated all of those small moments of enjoyment with the people she loved the most. Lauri was an animal and earth lover, enjoyed classic rock and Dr. Pepper, and treasured her dog Blondie.
Lauri is survived by her mother Carolyn Deatherage of Norman; her son Shawn Deatherage and his wife Amy of Newcastle; their children Bentley and Gwen; her sister Diane and husband Eric Schroeder of Norman; their child Stephanie Schroeder and her husband Nathaniel Ashley of Norman; her sister Angela and husband Don Sarabia of Oklahoma City; their children Brianna and Cassie Sarabia of Oklahoma City; her aunts Francia Parman of San Diego, California, and Lynda Shell of Norman; and her uncle Keith Parman of Kiowa.
Lauri is preceded in death by her father, Dale Deatherage of Midwest City, uncle J. Frank Parman of Norman, grandparents Lois and Bobby Allred of Pasadena, Texas, her grandmother and namesake Lauretta and grandfather James Franklin Parman of Norman.
Lauri will be very missed by all of those who loved her deeply. Her family hopes she found happiness, and most of all, peace and rest.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
