Justin Joseph Cervi, Jr., 92, passed peacefully on September 9, 2015. He was born in Harrison, New York to Justin and Mary (Muro) Cervi on March 13, 1923.
After his high school graduation, Justin enlisted as a B-17 radio operator in the 6th U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and served proudly until his honorable discharge in November 1945. When he returned home, he met and then later married Marie Herman on June 7, 1947 while living in New York. Justin’s interest in aviation continued after the war as he began his career with Pan Am Airlines and later went to work for the F.A.A. as an air traffic controller. He was a teacher of aviation and research before his retirement with the FAA in 1978 after 35 years of service. Justin was an Eagle Scout, a lifelong member of the American Legion, and was a founding member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.
Justin and his wife Marie raised five children, their daughter, Mary and four sons; Jay, Doug, Don and Bob. Justin was a family man who loved spending time traveling with his family, to places like Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Teton’s and Niagara Falls. He enjoyed taking cruises, reading a good book and tending to his garden. His family will remember his dedication to them, as he never missed an activity and would be the only spectator left watching his son’s football game in a torrential rain storm. He was loved much and will be missed.
Justin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marie (Herman), and his daughter Mary Clydene Cervi. He is survived by his four sons: Jay and wife Sheri of Norman, Doug and wife Kelly of Mays Landing, New Jersey, Don and wife Dawna of Norman, Bob and wife Sarah of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; his sister Dorothy Moore and husband Alvey of Monroe, Connecticut; eleven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
