Jimmy Daniel Tom was born on February 29th, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Lawson and Marie Montoya Tom. He passed away peacefully on Friday, December 25th at the age of 68 with his wife and daughters by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jimmy spent the first few years of his life living between Talihina, OK and the reservation in Taos, NM. His family settled in Del City where he graduated high school in 1971, then attended Oklahoma Baptist University.
He married Anita Joann (Holt) Tom on January 9, 1981 in Norman. They were 2 weeks away from celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary at the time of his passing, an accomplishment in which they were very proud. He loved spending time traveling and together they enjoyed cruises, Nascar, OU football, and watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Jimmy thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jimmy began his career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T in 1976. He started as an operator, then worked as an installer and a cable splicer before retiring as Manager of Construction in 2008. Not one to sit still, he began working part-time at Bethel Baptist Church shortly after retirement and was there until 2020.
He was called to ministry in August, 1967 at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly. He spent many years serving in the youth programs at Brookhaven Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church in Norman. Some of his greatest memories were of the many mission trips and Falls Creek weeks he attended. He loved investing time in the youth and was always excited when he had an opportunity to see some of his former students. He also enjoyed driving the bus for senior adult and children’s trips and made many friends along the way.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Anita, his daughters, Kristie Roberson and husband Joe of Choctaw, Melissa Mullins and husband Jeremy of Norman, Father and mother-in-law, Jim and Patsy Holt of Pauls Valley, sister Gloria of Midwest City, Brother-in-law, Mike Holt and his wife Debi of St. Thomas, USVI, Grandchildren, Kaitlynn Buchholz, Mayson Bagwell, Kenley Mullins, and Levi Mullins, one great-granddaughter, Raelynn Buchholz, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
