Horace K. Quattlebaum

Horace K. Quattlebaum, of Norman, died peacefully June 6, 2015, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.

Horace was born Sept. 20, 1928, in Kingman, Ariz., and preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Trola Mae.


Fondly known as Grandpa to many friends and family, Mr. Quattlebaum is survived by his two daughters, Jana Quattlebaum and Darien Quattlebaum-Moore and her husband, Bob of Norman; grandchildren Zandrea Waldenville and husband, Bryan of Norman, Amanda Andrews of New York, Amelia Andrews of Tulsa, Carol Donnelly and husband, Jake of Midwest City and Megan Moore of Norman; great-grandchildren Blakely and Ty Waldenville and Cara Donnelly; a brother, Duane Quattlebaum of El Paso, Texas; and a sister, Nancy Munson and husband, Jack of Waco, Texas.

He graduated from Colony High School in 1946 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in petroleum engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1951. After graduating, he began his career with Carter Oil Company in Seminole, where he met and married his wife, Trola Mae on May 30, 1952.

He had a 40-year career as a petroleum engineer, spending 35 years with Exxon and five with Hamilton Brothers, then with his own consulting firm, retiring in 2000. He was a lifetime member of Institute of Petroleum, Society of Petroleum Engineers and Texas Board of Professional Engineers.

Horace lived an extraordinary life. He enjoyed traveling, golf, business ventures and time with his family. His career took him and his family around the world numerous times. He was a member of The Travelers’ Century Club, having visited over 100 countries. His time with Exxon allowed them to live in several different countries, including Australia, England and Netherlands. Most adults and children fondly called him Mr. Q or Grandpa. He found himself often mentoring others in business and life.
