Florida Javier Serquina was born on November 24, 1926 in San Aurelio, Pangasinan Philippines to Emeterio and Juana Javier. She was the youngest and most mischievous of 14 children and, despite the precedence of her surviving siblings all becoming teachers, Florida’s distinctive personality and determined nature led her to pursue a career in Medicine. During her studies, she contracted tuberculosis and her self-determination along with a vow to become the best physician that she could be if she survived her illness, enabled her to treat and cure her disease. She then fulfilled her promise by excelling at medical practices in the fields of General Medicine, Anesthesia, and Psychiatry. She was known as a kind and gentle doctor.
On April 4th, 1959, Florida married the love of her life, Assuero Goltiao Serquina. They were happily married for 38 years and on their 35th anniversary were able to celebrate the renewal of their vows in the presence of their children, family and friends.
On October 30th, 2016, Florida, once again determined, went to join our Lord and her beloved husband, in heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and spouse. She is survived by 3 daughters, Althea Ma and her husband Simon of Bellevue, Washington, Beulah Delarosa and her husband Ariel of Norman, Oklahoma and Charmaine Serquina of Norman, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Rachel Pizano and her husband Zachary of Seattle, Washington, Alyssa Ma of Seattle, Washington, Ryne and Joshua Serquina of Norman, Oklahoma and Gabriel and Ariana Delarosa of Norman, Oklahoma; her great grandchild, Zachary Pizano, Jr. of Seattle, Washington; and many nieces and nephews.
