Christopher Jones

November 25, 1965 — April 24, 2023

Christopher B. Jones, 57, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at home with his family Monday, April 24, 2023, after battling cancer. Chris was born November 25, 1965 on Thanksgiving Day in Lawton, Oklahoma to the late Don Brent and Ima Jo (Howard) Jones. He grew up in Lawton, Moore, and Altus, Oklahoma. He graduated from Altus High School in 1984. He attended The University of Oklahoma with a degree in Physical Science. For 10 years, during college and after graduation, Chris worked for Interurban Restaurant in Norman, OK. He went on to pursue his passion of becoming a high school football coach and physical education teacher. He began coaching at Westmoore High School and teaching PE at Earlywine Elementary in Moore, Oklahoma. He coached at Moore West Junior High and coached his team to win the City Championship in 2006 with Brink Junior High. He went on to coach at Norman North High School and most recently coached at Noble High School as wide receiver coach, strength and conditioning coach, recruiting coordinator, and physical education teacher. At Noble he loved teaching adaptive PE and became very close with his students. His students loved him because he made learning fun while truly connecting with them. He touched the lives of many students, players, and fellow teachers & coaches throughout his career. In spite of battling cancer and receiving chemotherapy treatments, he rarely missed a football game or practice. The height of his dedication and work ethic was exemplified by his determination to coach each Friday night even after receiving chemo treatments that day, and then showing up to teach every Monday morning after continuing more treatment over the weekend.

Chris attended McFarlin Methodist Church with his family. Chris showed his love for the Lord through his actions and serving others through compassion, acceptance, and understanding.

Not only will Chris be remembered as an inspiring football coach and mentor, he will also be remembered by his friends and family as an excellent chef, expert fisherman, and for his playful humor. The beach was his favorite vacation spot, where he enjoyed gathering with family, fishing on the shore, cooking his fresh catch of the day and his crab cake specialty.

On June 20, 1992 Chris married his high school sweetheart LaDana Chambers. Their married life began in Norman, Oklahoma where they raised two children Chloe and Reece and four dogs. Chris was a family man who would often share stories and brag about his children who he adored and meant the world to him.

Chris was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Ima Jo Jones; his paternal grandparents, Ed and Mildred Kline Jones; and his maternal grandparents, Ozroe and Eva Mae Howard; his father-in-law, Willie Robert (Bud) Chambers; and mother-in-law, Noreta Kay Chambers.

He is survived by his wife, LaDana; two children, Chloe Caye Jones and Reece Christopher Jones; two beloved dogs, Jaeger and Paris; sister, Stephanie Jones Adair and husband Larry of Lawton, Oklahoma; brother, Brent Jones and wife Lynn of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister, Kimberly Jones Barr of Norman, Oklahoma; Brother-in-law, Robert Chambers of Altus, Oklahoma; Brother-in-law, Shannon Chambers of Ponca City, Oklahoma.
