Alice Allred, 77, of Norman, OK, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021. She was born December 11, 1943 in Ringwood, OK, to Fred Schmidt and Helen (Jantzen) Schmidt.
Alice was the oldest of five children. Her family moved from Ringwood, OK to California when she was a young girl. The family later moved to Oregon and she graduated from high school in Roseburg. Alice received a degree in Cosmetology from a beauty college in Roseburg, OR. Alice married Ray Harkema in 1964. From that union she had her son, Francis Wayne, and her daughter Michelle Lynn. Alice married James Allred in 1975. They lived and worked in several states until his passing in 1984. At that time Alice lived in Moore, OK and later moved to Norman where she lived and worked until October of 2019, when she retired to spend time with her family. Alice was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church in Norman, OK until she was physically unable to attend. Alice’s passion was making her clients beautiful through her hairstyling skills. She loved to work outdoors in her flower gardens and taking her dog “Sissy” for walks in the neighborhood. She loved the Lord and often shared the love of Christ with her clients, friends and family.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Helen Schmidt; her husband, Jim Allred; and her sister Dorothy Schmidt. Alice is survived by her son Frank Harkema and wife Shasta; her daughter Shelly and husband James Mills; her grandchildren Braden, Cole and Macy Mills, Creed and Cynjn Johnson; her sister Glennis Edgar; her brothers Allen Schmidt and wife Regina and Terry Schmidt and wife Carmela. Alice is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2021, at Tribute Memorial Care in Norman. The family will be present to receive friends during this time. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Bethel Baptist church, officiated by Rev. Bruce Ingram, in Norman with interment following at Warren Cemetery in Norman.
